Nellie June Casteel, 74 of Harrisburg, Illinois passed away at her daughter’s home on Sunday night, March 23, 2025. She was born in Harrisburg, Illinois on September 23, 1950, the daughter of the late Joseph Lynn and Edith May (Tyree) Casteel.
Nellie served her community as a registered nurse and retired from the State of Illinois Youth Center in Harrisburg.
She is survived by her two daughters, Kathleen Nicole “Nickie” Casteel of Harrisburg, IL. Sarah Elizabeth Casteel of Marion; six brothers, Jack (Deanna) Casteel of Harrisburg, Hubert Casteel of McLeansboro, Harold (Mona) Casteel of Harrisburg, Darrell (Rose) Casteel of Midland, Texas, Allen (Joyce) Casteel of Midland, Texas, Alvin (Teri) Casteel of Equality, Illinois; five grandchildren; Breaunna May Casteel, Sebastian Cole Brown, Olivia Grace Castel, Emma Elizabeth Casteel, Samuel Joseph Brown, Heidi June Morse, Gracie May Schmidt, Nellie Schmidt; two great grandchildren with another one the way; one sister-in-law, Betty Casteel of Tennessee; one brother-in-law, Paul Smith of McLeansboro, Illinois .
Nellie was preceded in death by both her parents; seven siblings, Tom Casteel, Josephine Casteel, Mollie Henderson, Melinda Clevenger, Alberta Milligan, JoeAnn Casteel, and Joseph Lynn Casteel Jr.; her daughter, Rebecca Lynn Casteel; one nephew, Tracy Henderson; one sister-in-law, Jackie Casteel; two brother-in-law, Fred Clevenger & Kenneth Milligan.
Visitation for Nellie will be held on Friday, March 28th from 4:00 – 7:00 PM at the Cox and Son Funeral Home in Ridgway, IL. Funeral service will be the following day, Saturday, March 29th at 1:00 PM. Burial will follow the service at Leavell Hill Cemetery near Junction.
