Carmi, IL

Michael J. Wenzel, known to many as Mick, was born on February 13, 1949, in Equality, Illinois. He passed away peacefully on October 17, 2024, in Evansville, Indiana, surrounded with love by his family.

Mick dedicated his life to farming, nurturing his own land with the care and commitment that reflected his deep-rooted passion for agriculture. His work was not just a career but a way for him to connect with nature and provide for his loved ones. He spent much of his retirement years enjoying travel, hunting, and collecting guns.  Family meant the world to Mick. He was a pillar of strength and kindness, always there to lend a helping hand. He cherished every moment spent with his loved ones, creating a legacy of love and support that touched everyone around him.

Mick is survived by his three daughters, Kerri (Ryan) Sykes, Kathi Wenzel, and Kelli (Bill) Chapman, who carry forward his values and memories. Mick found joy in the laughter and accomplishments of his seven grandchildren: Gavin Sykes, Adie Sykes, Madison (William) Pugsley, Lily Wenzel, Bailey Chapman, Matthew Chapman, and Georgia Chapman. He welcomed the birth of his great-grandchild, Susanna Pugsley, with immense pride and joy. He is also survived by his brother, Kenny Wenzel, and his sister Judy Wenzel.

He was preceded in death by parents Earl & Hazel Wenzel, and his brother, Butch Wenzel, whose memory remains cherished in the hearts of those who loved him.

Mick's legacy will live on in the lives he touched, and he will be missed dearly by all who had the honor to know him.

The Funeral Mass will be held at St. Kateri Catholic Church in Ridgway on Wednesday, October 30th, 2024, at 11:00 AM. Please proceed to the church directly before Mass. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations made to St. Judes.
