Lester Dean Newton, 71, of Junction, IL, passed away peacefully on October 7th, 2024, surrounded by the love of his family.

Lester was born on November 5th, 1952 in Harrisburg, IL, to Elmer Newton and Vivian Phillips. He is preceded in death by his parents and 2 dear sisters, Rosetta and Kay Newton. Lester was a retired coal miner and a proud member of the UMWA. Throughout his life, he found joy in simple pleasures—working with his hands, riding his Harley, spending time with his family, and sharing his love for music, especially The Beatles.

Lester was known for his generosity and passion for helping others. He had a talent for fixing cars, and many who knew him would often rely on his expertise and willingness to help. He enjoyed tinkering, not just for the challenge, but as a way to connect with others. Family meant everything to Lester, and he will be dearly missed by those who loved him most.

He is survived by his son, James Newton; daughter-in-law, Jamie Brock; grandchildren, Tyler and Druanne Newton; great-granddaughter, Ellie Newton; and his two loving sisters, Hazel and Judy. He was a dedicated father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and brother, always placing family at the center of his life.

Graveside services will be held on Monday, October 14, 2024, at 11:00 a.m. at Westwood Cemetery in Shawneetown, IL. We invite anyone who wishes to attend. Lester’s memory will live on in the hearts of his family and friends, and his legacy of love and kindness will be cherished forever.
