Janice M. James, age 68 longtime Shawneetown resident died Sunday, May 24, 2009 in Ferrell Hospital, Eldorado, Illinois. Janice was born in New Haven, IL on October 17, 1940 to the late Alfred and Viva (Eades) Goforth. Janice was married to George James who preceded her in death. Janice was always a very active person especially taking care of people. Her life was her family and looking after anyone in need. She had been very active in the Gallatin County Democrat Organization, loved to work with flowers. Her church life was very important. She had been a member of the Crossroads Church in Norris City. Janice was a good mother, grandmother, sister, wife and friend. She will be missed by never forgotten.
She is survived by 2 Sons - Jeff James and Tony Goforth, 2 Daughters - Shelly Dunk and Julie James all of Shawneetown. 1 Sister - Lois Overton of Noble, IL, 10 Grandchildren and 2 Great Grandchildren. She is preceded in death by 2 Daughters, Beverly Clines and Tammy Griffith, 2 Brothers, Charles Cissne and Leo Cissne. 2 Sisters, Mildred Breeden, and Sue Goforth.
Services for Janice will be Thursday, May 28, 2009 at 3:00 PM at the Cox and Son Funeral Home in Shawneetown. Visitation will also be on Thursday at the funeral home starting at 11:00 AM. Rev. Richard Holt will officiate and interment will be in Westwood Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers the family ask contributions be made to the American Cancer Society.
