James R. ""Jim"" Brown, age 82, longtime resident of Carmi died peacefully on Thursday, January 26, 2012 at his home surrounded by his family. Jim was born in Maunie on August 20, 1929 to the late Harry & Iona (Wooten) Brown. He graduated from Carmi High School and then served his country in the Army. On June 16, 1957 he married the former Dorothy (Brooks) Brown who survives. Jim worked for over 50 years in the oil fields as a driller. For his pastimes, he love to do crossword puzzles, was an avid Chicago Cubs fan, loved to be around his family, collected coins and hats and enjoyed his little dog, Tiki. He was a good husband, father, grandfather, brother and friend and will be missed.
He is survived by his wife, Dorothy of Carmi, 2 sons, Stan (Pam) of Brownsville, Stacey (Michelle) of Carmi, 2 daughters, Katy of Carmi and Lisa (Jeff) of Evansville, In. 7 Grandchildren, 5 Great Grandchildren along with 3 brothers, Jerry (Sarah) of Huntsville, AL, Larry (Cathy) of Carmi, and John of Enfield. 1 sister, Gayle of Louisville, Ky. He was preceded in death by 2 brothers and 1 sister.
Per his request, Jim will be cremated and a graveside service will be on Tuesday, January 31, 2012 at the Big Prairie Cemetery South East of Carmi at 2:00 PM. Those wanting to attend should go directly to the cemetery.
Cox & Son Funeral Home in Ridgway is entrusted with the arrangements.
In lieu of flowers the family asks that donations be made to the Southern Illinois Hospice in his memory.
