Hershel Belford, age 82 of Eldorado, IL went to be with his Lord, Wednesday, January 23, 2008 at his home. Hershel spent most of his life in Ridgway raising his family and working at the Bond Lumber and the Popcorn Plant in Ridgway. Hershel was born in Pope County, IL on February 21, 1925 to the late Uriah and Nora (Carmen) Belford. In 1947 he married the former Joan (Fisher) who preceded him in death. He served his country in World War II in the Navy. He was a member of the American Legion/VFW in Ridgway. Hershel was a very devoted and faithful member of the Ridgway First Baptist Church where he was a member. He was a good Father, Husband, Brother, Grandfather and Friend. He will be greatly missed by his community.
He is survived by 4 Daughters, Carmen Lampert of Broughton, IL, Wanda Ashby of St. Louis, Mo, Virginia Sinclair of Fort Knox, Ky, and Terri Blavesciunas of Fayetteville, Arkansas. 4 Sons, Joey Belford of Eldorado, IL, Bishop Belford of New Haven, IL, Wayne Belford of Junction, IL, and Paul Belford of Fayetteville, Arkansas. 8 Grandchildren and 3 Great Grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, 2 brothers and 1 son
Visitation for Hershel will be Friday, January 25, 2008 at the Cox and Son Funeral Home in Ridgway from 5:00 to 8:00 PM. Funeral ceremony will be on Saturday, January 26, 2008 at the Cox and Son Funeral Home in Ridgway at 11:00 AM Rev. Rob Gallion will officiate and interment will be in the Westwood Cemetery near Shawneetown, with military rites conducted by the Ridgway American Legion and VFW.
