Gary S. Fals, age 62, of Equality, IL passed this life on Saturday, April 9, 2016 at his home surrounded by his family, after a 10 month battle with Pancreatic Cancer.
During his illness, he stated ""I am the lucky one, because I can prepare for Our Lord and enjoy every single day."" He would awake early in the morning to watch the sun rise enjoying the creation God has given all of us.
Gary was born on April 12, 1953 in Eldorado, IL to John S. Fals and Marjorie (McCormick) Fals. Gary attended and graduated grade school at St. Mary' Catholic school in Eldorado, High School in Eldorado and received a Bachelors Degree in Ag from SIU. He was married to Rita (McGrew) Fals the love of his life on Feb. 11, 1977. Gary was a farmer most of his life. He loved the water, boating, camping and the outdoors. He spent past years at the river, the landing and the Kentucky campsite. He enjoyed hunting, but most being around his friends and family. Gary always had a positive attitude and a smile for you. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus in Ridgway where he was a Past Grand Knight. Gary was a member of the St.Kateri Catholic Church in Ridgway. He was a good husband, father, grandfather, brother and son and will be missed by many.
He is survived by his wife, Rita (McGrew) Fals of Equality, 1 daughter, Ashley (Greg) Webster of Colorado, 1 son, J.W. (Jennifer) Fals of Equality. 1 grandson, his greatest joy, John Luke Fals, his mother Marjorie (McCormick) Fals who died 13 hours after Gary. 1 sister, Julia Wargel of Ridgway, 1 brother, Bill (Connie) Fals of Ridgway. He is also preceded in death by his father, John S. Fals and a brother Robert Michael Fals.
Visitation for Gary will be on Wednesday, April 13, 2016 at the Cox & Son Funeral Home in Ridgway from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM. A prayer service will be said at 4:00 PM that day. Gary's funeral mass will be on Thursday, April 14, 2016 at the St. Kateri Catholic Church in Ridgway starting at 10:00 AM. Fr. Phillip Devous will celebrate and his burial will follow in the St. Joseph Cemetery in Ridgway.
Along with his family Gary was blessed with many friends and laughter along his journey. His strength, courage and faith have been an example to us all.
Donations in Gary's memory can be made to the Alzheimers Association or the St. Kateri Catholic Church Building Fund. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
