Dwight Brooks

Dwight D. Brooks, age 41, of Johnson City, IL but longtime Shawneetown resident, passed on this life, Wednesday, May 27, 2020 at his home.  Dwight was born on April 28, 1979 in Eldorado, IL to David Brooks and Cathy Back.

Dwight graduated from Gallatin County High School, with perfect attendance and a 4-year honor roll student.  Dwight had a brilliant mind in dark world, who loved music, hunting and fishing but mostly being with his family and friends.  He loved sports; he was a very good baseball player in high school known to his teammates as Zamboni.  He had a heart of gold, a soul of compassion and will be missed so much.

Dwight is survived by his parents,  David (Lori) Brooks of Shawneetown and Cathy (James) Back of Shawneetown, a sister, Holly Brooks McVey (Vicki), uncles, aunts, and cousins and many friends.  He was preceded in death by his grandparents and his brother Justin “Rudy” Brooks.

Due to the Covid-19 pandemic, a private graveside service will be done at the Hogan Cemetery south of Shawneetown, where he will be laid to rest next to his brother.  Cox & Son Funeral Home in Shawneetown is entrusted with the arrangements.  Memorial contributions in Dwight’s memory can be made to the Hogan Cemetery.  You may also leave a note of comfort to the family at www.coxandson.com
