Dennis Leo Rider, age 72, lifelong resident of New Haven, passed this life, Tuesday, August 30, 2016. Denny as most knew him was born in Shawneetown, IL on October 3, 1943 to the late Fred and Edith (Bosaw) Rider.
Denny served his country proudly in the US Navy from 1962 to 1966. On September 7, 1968 he married the love of his life Rita (Sisco) Rider who survives. He worked many years at B&W in Mt. Vernon before its closure and then became Water Superintendant of the Village of New Haven for many years before retiring. He will be remembered as one of the Village’s historians’s, knowing most all of its history and had many pictures of the past. He loved to keep his yard nice and loved to gather pecans. Denny was a kind and caring person who will be missed by many.
He is survived by his wife Rita, 3 daughters, Vicki (Roy) Russell, Tara (Rod) Walters, Lindsay (Avery Franks) Rider, 2 sons, Nathan and Drew Rider all of New Haven, IL. 6 Grandchildren, Ragyn (Jerry) Holman, Drake Russell, Austin (Meghan Haggard) Russell, Hunter Walters, Ava Franks, Ana Franks. 4 Great Grand, Kale, Kinady and Kazlyn Holman and Beau Russell. 1 sister, Kay Poshard, 2 sister in laws, Paulette Rider and Carolyn Rider. He was preceded in death also by a son, Cale Rider, 2 brothers, Donnie and Ronnie Rider and a brother in law, Robert Poshard.
Visitation for Denny will be on Friday, September 2, 2016 at the Cox & Son Funeral Home in New Haven from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM. A graveside service will take place on Saturday, September 3, 2016 at 11:00 AM at the Union Ridge Cemetery near New Haven. Those attending should go directly to the cemetery. Military rites will be accorded at the gravesite.
Memorial contributions in lieu of flowers can be made for the family to create a memorial in New Haven remembering Denny, envelopes will be available at the funeral home. You may leave a note of comfort to the family at www.coxandson.com
